Choice Overload: Designing for High Impact Decision Making
Choice is one of the most powerful aspects of fun in game play. What happens when you give players too many choices?
Although its long been the common wisdom that there is no such thing as too many choices, many studies by economists and psychologists suggest that an overload of options may actually paralyze players or push them into decisions that are against their own best interest.
This session will explore the topic of choice overload in game design by highlighting best practices and common pitfalls.
Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the cognitive process behind choice overload and practical knowledge for designing experiences with high impact choices.
